This Carmel home had belonged to our client’s mother for 25 years before she retired and relocated to be closer to her family in Southern California. Rather than selling, they kept the home in the family and entrusted the Lewis Builders team with transforming the house into a luxe vacation home for their entire family to enjoy.
While the house was ideally situated, it lacked space and modern finishes. To transform this cozy gem into the ultimate getaway, our client tasked us with completely remodeling the existing one-story floor plan, adding on a second-floor suite, reorienting the garage, and reimaging the front yard into a private recreational spot.
Expanding up into a second story gave us room to design an additional private living area, complete with a primary suite, a family room and a gorgeous 400-square-foot rooftop deck with a captivating ocean view.
Just inside, an easily accessible beverage station and chilled drawers provides the outdoor entertaining area with easy access to refreshments–making it the ideal place for entertaining friends and family. This new space made an enormous impact on the home’s overall livability, providing just the right amount of separation for the family’s different generations to retreat and unwind in a spot of their own.
A Main Floor Worthy of Entertaining
On the main floor, a bright, contemporary kitchen offers plenty of room to cook and entertain. Against a crisp white and cool gray color palette, a beautiful chevron tile backsplash and modern pendant lights add dimension and visual interest. The kitchen island features an overhang for bar stools opposite of the integrated cooktop. This configuration makes it an ideal spot for family and friends to gather while meals are prepared–without being underfoot in the meal prep zone.
Creating the Ultimate Recreational Space
There is so much to love about this remodel, but one of our favorite features is the double set of large sliding doors that seamlessly connect the inside with the new outdoor living area. In addition to providing that transition between the indoor and outdoor spaces, it also allows an abundance of natural light to flow throughout both the living and dining rooms.
The outdoor space features a built-in BBQ station, firepit with lots of seating, a putting green and a bocce ball court! A fence was also added to enhance the privacy for the recreational space. In short, this is outdoor living at its finest.
Our client and her family are thrilled with how this legacy home has been transformed into a luxe vacation retreat that they can enjoy for years to come.
